Queens Park Rangers and Brentford are reportedly set to battle it out for Rangers midfielder Josh Windass.

The 23-year-old son of former Hull, Bradford and Middlesbrough forward Dean Windass only made the move from Accrington Stanley to Ibrox 12 months ago, but he struggled to make an impact in Scotland, scoring once in 27 appearances for the Gers.

Windass was signed by Mark Warburton, who has since been replaced as manager by Pedro Caixinha, with the Portuguese putting his own stamp on the Rangers squad this summer by bringing in midfield trio Graham Dorrans, Carlos Pena and Ryan Jack.

Windass has been linked with a move to several League One clubs so far in this transfer window, but it now appears that QPR boss Ian Holloway is keen to take him to the Championship.

However, their London rivals Brentford are also said to be in the running and there could be a transfer tug-of-war between the clubs for Windass' signature.
