What is the use of fluoride?
Fluoride is a mineral that helps fight against the appearance of dental caries, thus helping to strengthen the tooth enamel. This trace element is particularly important for children from birth to 12 years of age. It is also known for solidifying bones.
But do not overdo it: an excess of fluoride can cause a fluorosis which, if it takes place during the mineralization of the teeth, gives a spotty appearance to the enamel.
In addition, scientific studies show that fluoride can have negative effects on the nervous system. Excess fluoride can also cause poisoning or osteoporosis. Some studies even question the importance of fluoride for our teeth.

Which foods are rich in fluoride?
It is advisable not to exceed a dose of 3 milligrams of fluoride per day for an adult. A child from 3 to 6 years old will be satisfied with 0.5 milligrams. The problem is that fluoride is everywhere today. Water, whether tap or mineral, naturally contains fluoride. Fluorinated salt, many cheeses (mozzarella, emmental, parmesan, gouda, raclette ...) but also fish (such as herring, mackerel, cod, salmon), meat (pork liver, kidneys), cereals , legumes, vegetables (spinach, parsley, radish ...), fruits (grapefruit, currant, strawberry, pear), nuts and seeds contain. In other words, it is not easy to miss! Especially since fluoride is also added to certain consumer products: chewing gum and toothpaste, for example.
